"The LEAP program was well structured and enabled me to maximize my impact" John Doe, LEAP Mentor 2022
LEAP is currently a California based program. It primarily provides law school application support, including LSAT classes, for its fellows. LEAP pairs its fellows with former LEAP fellows and mentors from corporate legal departments and/or law firms. LEAP has one cohort of fellows in southern California and one cohort of fellows in Northern California.
Corporate legal departments and law firms can provide monetary sponsorship and volunteers to mentor LEAP fellows. Potential volunteers should reach out to Cindy Lopez at clopez@lawfellows.org.
Volunteers with LEAP have the following responsibilities:
Participate in regular mentoring sessions with their assigned LEAP fellow
Provide guidance through the law school application process, including reviewing personal statements/resumes and creating school lists
Attend a monthly workshop by Zoom or in-person
Sessions are generally held on Saturdays, but you can staff two attorneys per a single LEAP fellow to reduce the burden of the Saturday workshops
There is one workshop a month and they are held in-person rotating between LA and the Bay Area
The workshops begin in January and end in June
If you are local, LEAP prefers that mentors attend in-person
Although the workshop for the LEAP fellows lasts most of the day, mentors only need to attend a 1-1.5 hour session each workshop, which covers law school application basics
